About This Course

This advanced legal writing CLE course will focus on drafting pleadings using Conclusion, Rule, Analysis, and Conclusion (CRAC), a variation of Issue, Rule, Analysis, and Conclusion (IRAC). The emphasis is on sound and effective writing in practice.

The instructor provides key points about grammar, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, and correspondence. Participants will review these principles at work in sample documents.

Lecturer Bio

Beverley R. Meyers, Esq.

Professor Bev Meyers (Professor Meyers) is a longtime legal educator and lawyer. She worked at the California Office of the Attorney General (AG) for almost 30 years. In her practice, Bev handled motions, trials, and appeals. She drafted more than 1,000 motions while at the AG’s Office. Early in her practice, Professor Meyers was a Deputy City Attorney and Deputy District Attorney, where she tried criminal cases, and handled criminal motions.

Also, she has taught legal writing as an adjunct professor in the Bay Area for over 30 years, including presently at John F. Kennedy School of Law at Northcentral University, where she teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Evidence.

In 2021, Northcentral University gave Professor Meyers the Inaugural Delphi Award for Academic Excellence. Bev has a business teaching an online legal writing course, Legal Writing Launch, which is available at https://legalwritinglaunch.com.

Professor Meyers is a lecturer for the National Academy of Continuing Legal Education and the United Institute for Continuing Legal Education. In 2020, Professor Meyers developed and presented Effective Legal Writing for the Attorney Practitioner.

And in 2021, Bev developed and presented The George Floyd Case: The Evidence, Arguments, Sentence & Verdict in the Criminal Case against Derek Chauvin. Both lectures are available nationally and for continuing legal education credit.
