Patrick H. Stiehm is in solo practice, in the District of Columbia, under the name Stiehm Law Office. His major areas of practice are domestic and international commercial finance and representing the left behind parent in international child kidnapping cases in both state and federal court, throughout the United States. He has brought Hague Convention cases, that have furthered the purposes of the Convention and refined the law governing the Convention here in the United States, typical examples of which are Escaf v. Rodriquez, 200 F. Supp. 2d 603,
(Eastern District of Virginia, 2002) and Ly v. Heu, 294 F. Supp. 2nd 1026 (District of Minnesota, 2003).
Mr. Stiehm is a former District Attorney (Wisconsin), SBA District Counsel (Phoenix Arizona and Washington, DC) and General Counsel of a publicly traded commercial finance company. He has been an instructor in the United States Attorney General's Trial Advocacy Course, and a CLE Instructor, in the areas of litigation, commercial finance and international parental child kidnapping in and/or accredited by: Arkansas, Alaska, Arizona, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Hawaii Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington State, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
He has been a featured speaker on legal matters at various trade meetings and seminars involving the commercial finance industry. He has also authored articles in various commercial finance trade publications and in legal publications, including an article for foreign lawyers on Hague Convention practices in the United States.
His undergraduate degree is from the University of St. Thomas in the twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. His JD is from the University of Minnesota Law School. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Maryland and Minnesota.
