Bruce Richardson received a Bachelor of Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a Juris Doctorate from the City University of New York School of Law. Bruce Richardson has extensive criminal and real estate litigation experience and has zealously advocated on behalf of disenfranchised individuals as well as distressed and victimized homeowners.
Bruce Richardson began his legal career at Rikers Island where he advocated on behalf of pre-trial-detainees and sentenced inmates. He managed the law library at Anna M. Kross Center (AMKC), the largest jail on Rikers Island in New York City, where he assisted inmates with drafting motions, writs, appeals, Article 78 proceedings and appellate briefs. He taught a legal research and writing class and helped inmates successfully litigate Title VII claims. While at Rikers Island Bruce Richardson was instrumental in attaining the dismissal of criminal charges at trial of an inmate, facing life in prison, falsely accused of committing armed robbery.
Afterwards, Bruce Richardson honed his legal skills while a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Practice in Brooklyn, NY. Bruce Richardson has since participated in numerous felony and misdemeanor trials including, murder, robbery, weapons possession and drug possession charges. He conducted a federal jury trial in the United States District Court Northern District of New York regarding a prisoner’s rights 28 U.S.C. § 1331 claim. Bruce Richardson has also represented clients regarding federal criminal prosecutions related to real estate fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud and mortgage fraud. He has negotiated and resolved real estate related criminal matters with the United States Attorney’s Office of both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Bruce Richardson’s extensive criminal defense background has enabled him to adopt a trial advocacy approach to addressing the myriad of complex issues inherent in foreclosure and real property cases. Having conducted trials in both State and Federal courts, Bruce Richardson is well suited to combat the deceptive, abusive and unlawful practices perpetuated by large banks, institutional lenders, various homeowner rescue scheme entities and conmen. Bruce Richardson’s commencement of a Civil RICO conspiracy complaint in the United States District Court District of New Jersey led to the indictment and arrest of an unscrupulous attorney by the United States Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey and dismantling of a $30 million homeowner rescue scheme.
Bruce Richardson is well versed in real estate litigation particularly as it relates to residential and commercial foreclosure defense. He has filed appeals, orders to show cause, successfully defended motions for summary judgment, appointment of Referee, judgments of foreclosure and sale, and stopped numerous Referee foreclosure sales. He has also filed lawsuits against mortgage servicers, lenders as well as con artists and entities that fraudulently acquired a homeowner’s property.
He has sought loss mitigation remedies best suited for his clients’ needs including loan modifications, short sales and deeds in lieu of foreclosure while assessing the IRS tax implications of each.
