This CLE class is designed for those Attorneys who are working for or with the Federal Government. It outlines fundamentals of government ethics laws as defined by the U.S. Government's Office of Government Ethics. From an introduction into the statutory and regulatory bases for this body of law, the class proceeds to address some of the most common issues that government attorneys face when dealing with ethical issues.

These include the use of government property, with special emphasis placed on information technology and government-owned vehicles. From there, the class addresses issues related to contractor-employees in the workplace, with particular emphasis placed on the respective roles and authorities of government personnel vis a vis contractor personnel, with do's and don'ts guidance for the ethics counselor to provide to his government clients.

The class then natural progresses to the issues of gift-giving in the workplace, first from "prohibited sources" (i.e., those entities or people doing business with or before the Federal government), as well as fundraising in the Federal workspaces (an issue more common that you would otherwise think). Finally, the class closes with the issue of post-government employment, and the minefield of issues related to when and how former government employees can and cannot seek post-government employment with entities that do business with the Federal government.
