About This Course

Criminal practitioners, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and the judges who preside over them must constantly monitor how to address a prosecution when a witness doesn't attend court. Two types of rules regulate how judges should handle these absences.

This CLE presentation analyzes how these rules can be used by prosecutors and defense lawyers to advance their individual cases.

Lecturer Bio

Matthew W. Gilbert, Esq.

Crime victims deserve the best legal representation or advocacy which the United States of America legal system has to offer. Since graduating law school, Matthew Gilbert has devoted his law practice to pursuing this goal.

After completing a BA in Philosophy from Austin Peay State University in 2008 and then a JD from Washington University in St. Louis in 2012, he has worked for the Nashville Davidson County District Attorney’s Office since 2013 as well as worked as a Judge Advocate for the Tennessee Army National Guard and National Guard Bureau since 2014.

Matthew’s practice has focused on prosecuting domestic violence, and representing sexual assault and domestic violence victims in the U.S. Military.
