Robert H. Smith, Esq.
Mr. Smith, a seasoned trial attorney, is one of the founding partners of Lowis & Gellen. His areas of focus are medical malpractice, civil litigation, and Title IX/School Law, where his goal is to ensure equal opportunities for men and women, particularly in the area of collegiate athletics.
His skills in the courtroom have yielded enviable results for his clients, producing favorable outcomes in over 80 percent of cases tried to verdict. Many of his litigation skills were developed early in Mr. Smith’s career, when he served in the Will County State’s Attorney’s office. He has tried numerous catastrophic injury cases, primarily involving malpractice claims. Mr. Smith has received numerous peer-awarded honors, including designation as a “Leading Lawyer” and “Super Lawyer” in the area of medical malpractice defense — placing him among the top civil defense lawyers in Illinois.
As a respected attorney, Mr. Smith is a much sought-after speaker at both regional and national conferences. He has published on a variety of medical malpractice issues. He often speaks at conferences throughout the country, including programs sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology, Association of Neonatologists and the March of Dimes.
He served as a member of the Plainfield School District Board of Education for 8 years, 4 of these years as President. He is currently the District Hearing officer.
Mr. Smith received a B.S., summa cum laude, from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois, in 1977 and a J.D. from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law, Chicago, Illinois, in 1982, where he graduated cum laude.
