About This Course
With the Olympic world shaken by allegations from all sides, it’s perhaps no surprise that drastic action was forthcoming. The Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act was signed into law. The act, commonly known as the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse & Safe Sports Authorization Act dramatically alters the procedures for reporting and handling matters of sexual abuse, misconduct, youth protection and exploitation and physical abuse for all sports organizations that are part of the United States Olympic Committee governing structure.
This CLE course will explain the act and how, in addition to the above, it helps to establish the US Center for Safe Sport (SafeSport) as the investigative and adjudicative body for all allegations that pertain to the act for every National Governing Body of all US Olympic Movement sports. Presented by Robert Boland, J.D., Athletics Integrity Officer at Penn State University, the course will outline the process for investigation and adjudication by SafeSport, as well as reporting requirements the act requires for entities beyond the Olympic committee including K-12 schools, local sports organizations, and programs at the high school and college level.
