About This Course
It played out like a soap opera on the pages of news and television screens across the nation. It may have been the most discussed and covered labor penalty appeal arbitration in history but the investigation, discipline and controversy generated by Major League Baseball's suspension of superstar Alex Rodriguez for 162 games, all of the 2014 season, the longest suspension short of a lifetime ban issued in baseball history opens the door for a deeper examination of potentially conflicting legal and ethical positions including: the responsibility of attorneys working for a business enterprise to supervise non-attorneys in their employ; the ethical duties owed to non-judicial tribunals; the obligations owed by a union to both their broader bargaining unit and to the due process rights of an individual member.
This CLE session focusing on legal ethics will use the widely discussed Rodriguez case as its canvas for examining the many ethical issues raised by this sensational and widely covered situation. It is a must for all attorneys working in corporate or union settings but also for all baseball and sports fans wanting to better understand this complex legal framework.
