About This Course
As all attorneys know or should know, every attorney is, ipso facto, an agent of each client, with concomitant fiduciary duties to the client. This CLE program provides a unique opportunity to understand the principles of agency law, giving attorneys a greater grounding in ethical responsibilities and a ready compass for detangling knotty ethical questions. Moreover, agency relationships are everywhere and, importantly, often inadvertently arise. Whether entered into intentionally or unintentionally, the duties such relationships embrace and the liabilities they can engender, both between the parties and in relation to third parties, can be a trap for the unwary and a powerful legal weapon in prosecution or defense for those in the know; and never more so than when an attorney’s ethics or performance are questioned.
This Seminar is taught by a former Adjunct Professor at Georgetown U. and Catholic U. Law Schools, who spent over 20 years teaching Agency Law. This Seminar is a distillation of that course into a comprehensive overview and is further enhanced by inclusion of a Canon-by-Canon explanation of Agency underpinnings for the Canons of Ethics.
